About Electrum

Electrum is a free, open-source, self-custodial Bitcoin wallet created by Thomas Voegtlin in November 2011. It runs on desktop and Android and is known for light-client speed, seed recovery, fee control, and cold-storage workflows. Users can connect to their own Electrum server or public servers, use multisig, and work with hardware wallets through plugins. Electrum Technologies GmbH in Berlin packages and distributes the software and hosts the project website. The wallet is released under the MIT licence and does not take custody of user keys. Lightning support and other features are maintained by a small group of open-source contributors.
