Block, Inc. (NYSE: XYZ) is a financial technology company built around two main ecosystems, Square and Cash App. Square provides payments, software, hardware and financial services for sellers. Cash App offers individuals peer-to-peer payments, bitcoin and stock investing, the Cash App Card, Cash App Borrow short-term loans and buy-now-pay-later products. Block also runs newer businesses including TIDAL and a Bitcoin unit that includes Proto and Bitkey. For bitcoin bought in Cash App, Block holds the cryptographic keys and keeps the internal records of customer balances, and according to its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q the vast majority of the bitcoin it holds for itself and its customers is kept in offline, air-gapped cold storage.
