Alby

Alby is a Bitcoin Lightning wallet and browser extension that enables individuals, developers, and creators to send, receive, and earn sats natively across the web. It is one of the most widely adopted Lightning wallets in the Bitcoin open-source ecosystem.

• Lightning Wallet: Send and receive Bitcoin over the Lightning Network instantly with near-zero fees, accessible via browser extension or mobile app.
• Lightning Address: Every Alby account includes a yourname@getalby.com Lightning address, a human-readable payment identifier that works across any compatible wallet or app.
• Alby Hub: A self-custodial Lightning node you run on your own hardware or in the cloud, giving you full control over your keys and channel liquidity.
• Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC): An open protocol Alby pioneered that lets web apps request Lightning payments with explicit user approval, without requiring API keys. Now supported across hundreds of Bitcoin and Nostr apps.
• Node Connection: Connect Alby to an existing node (LND, Core Lightning, Greenlight, LNbits) and use the browser extension as a web wallet front-end for that node.
• Developer API: REST and WebLN APIs for embedding Lightning payments into any website or application, with OAuth-based permissions and webhook support.

Alby is non-custodial when paired with Alby Hub or a self-hosted node. A custodial hosted wallet is also available for users who prefer a simpler onboarding path before moving to self-custody.
