About Xapo Bank

Xapo Bank is a Gibraltar‑headquartered private bank founded in late 2013 that grew out of a secure “vault” its founder built after buying his first bitcoins in 2011 to solve custody challenges for high‑net‑worth bitcoin holders and institutions. The company launched as a bitcoin wallet with cold‑storage vaults and a bitcoin‑backed debit card, focused on secure custody (its institutional custody business was acquired by Coinbase in 2019). Xapo has pursued regulated services — holding a Gibraltar virtual asset provider license, receiving a New York BitLicense in 2018 (relinquished in 2022), and expanding into interest‑bearing bitcoin and fiat accounts and stock trading for non‑US clients. Leadership is led by founder and chairman Wences Casares (a serial fintech entrepreneur), with co‑founder and early COO Federico Murrone and CEO Seamus Rocca among the senior team.
